The Best That You Can Do

For some reason the Christopher Cross song, "The best that you can do", has been stuck in my head all week. It's brought up a few thoughts.

1. No one knows the verses to this song. This is like a classic karaoke trap. Nothing in my memory kicks in until I hear "When you get caught..."

2. Few people remember that this is actually a cinematic score theme. The title of the song is actually Arthur's Theme (The best that you can do). In addition to being played on the radio, this song was scored for a major motion picture. Dudley Moore played the title character of Arthur.

3. When was the last time you tried your best? The actual best that you could do? We're so used to the expression "that's the least I could do." But when did you step back and look at your work and say "that's the best I could do?"
